Horror Movie Books
Books On Horror In General
Danse Macabre - Stephen King
A comprehensive and absolutely essential study of horror in all its forms by the master.
Monster Show - David J. Skal
Subtitled A Cultural History of Horror, this book (recently revised and expanded) is a bit more psychological in its examination of horror in popular culture. Relies on Freud a bit much, but is still interesting reading.
Clive Barker's A-Z of Horror - Clive Barker
Clive's commentary tends toward the egotistical, but this book includes some interesting information and an intriguing categorization scheme: G For Grim Tales, N For Nightmare, X For Exploitation.
Cut! Horror Writers on Horror Film - Christopher Golden (ed.)
Includes essays on a variety of horror subjects such as specific films and filmmakers, humor in horror, and subjects that are taboo even for horror.
Step Right Up! I'm Going to Scare the Pants Off America - William Castle
Endearing, casually written autobiography by a self-professed B-Movie Mogul and the best promoter of horror films Hollywood has ever seen. Castle gimmicks included nurses in the lobby (in case people died of fright) and the tingler device placed beneath unsuspecting movie patrons' seats.
Movie Guides
Creature Features - John Stanley
Comprehensive guide to science fiction, fantasy and horror movies. Stanley has eclectic (okay, bad) taste in films sometimes, but this is the most exhaustive horror movie guide available.
Videohound's Horror Show - Mike Mayo
A little bit more selective, Videohound's guide features an excellent index and feature articles about certain filmmakers and stars.
Cult Horror Movies - Welch Everman
Even more selective, this volume is heavily illustrated with movie stills and commentary on a number of obscure (some deservedly so) horror films.

Horror Movie Websites
IMDB.com should always be the first website stop for any movie genre, concern or question. IMDB's filmographies are incomparably comprehensive, even for the most obscure B-movie actor.
Stomp Tokyo is the best site around for in-depth, hilarious reviews of all sorts of genre films. (The most interesting reviews are horror, of course.) Sections include The Bad Movie Report, Attack of the 50-Foot DVD and The Unknown Movies.
Bad Movie Planet featuring Dante's Inferno and All-Night Video Store is another excellent movie review site. Reviews of bad movies are so much danged fun to read!
The Joe Bob Briggs Report includes columns, a book club and the Find That Flick contest, as well as reviews. You really can't talk about bad movies without mentioning Joe Bob Briggs.
Terror Trap is an extensive directory of horror movies available on video and dvd. Also includes interesting essays on subjects like Scream Queens, horror luminaries like Tom Savini and specific horror film genres.
C.H.U.D, aka Cinema Happenings Under Development has horrible pop-up ads, but all sorts of interesting information about upcoming films. Horror film information can be found at the Creature Corner, an appendage to C.H.U.D.

Spooky Music
Good spooky music is awfully difficult to find. Every search seems to turn up "The Monster Mash" over and over again. Most of the music finds on the following list come from the fabulous Friday Night Poker Party (FNPP) on KFAI-FM, Mpls/St. Paul. FNPP's Halloween 2001 theme show was a dazzling array of obscure Halloween songs and oddities. Also included are a few Halloween standards such as Bernard Herrmann and the classic horror themes.
Monster Rock'n'Roll Show
A super-cool collection of classic monster songs like "Feast of the Mau Mau" and "Lil' Miss Red Riding Hood" interspersed with trailers from horror movies like I Was a Teenage Frankenstein and The Thing That Couldn't Die.
The Big Monster Bash
A hip, jumping collection of Halloween songs featuring Jack Knife & The Sharps, The Vibro Champs and El Vez. The standout song on this collection is "The Mice, The Demons and The Piggies" by Wolfgang Tucker & The Jumping Terrors.
Halloween Hootenany
Another hip little Halloween collection, this cd features songs by Zacherle, Reverend Horton Heat and Southern Culture on the Skids. Perfect to get any party started.
New Wave Halloween
No Halloween experience is complete without hearing The Ramones sing "Pet Sematary." Other songs on this cd include Ministry's "Everyday is Halloween" and Oingo Boingo's "Dead Man's Party."
Very Scary Music - Classic Horror Themes
This cd goes the classic route and includes the genuinely chilling themes to The Exorcist, Halloween and Poltergeist.
Fright Night - Music That Goes Bump in the Night
Even more classic, this collection includes a variety of classical music with a spooky bent, such as "Night On Bald Mountain," "The Sorcerer's Apprentice" and "Ride of the Valkyries."
Herrmann & Hitchcock - A Partnership In Terror
Few movies themes are as memorable as those written by Bernard Herrmann for the films of Alfred Hitchcock. See Psycho and Vertigo especially.
